Seriously damaged and poorly repaired painting. This photo shows the old varnish being removed, revealing wood-putty repairs. The painting was also glued down to plywood. *shudder*
The rabbet in this large frame was completely detached from the frame during shipping. After repairing the rabbet and missing pieces (grey areas), the entire frame was gilded.
First, the dirt layer was removed, then the darkened varnish layer. The process shows in the sky. I also made a test of one sheep. Can you spot which one?
